Why Visit Misiones?

Misiones is the green heart of Argentina, famous for its lush rainforests, towering waterfalls, and deep-red soil. It is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to see a wilder side of South America.

It’s an incredible spot for digital nomads who want a break from the big city or travelers who crave nature without sacrificing a solid home base. During my time here, I spent a full month exploring the region—from the capital city of Posadas to the small-town charm of Capioví, the ruins of San Ignacio, and the world-class wonder of Iguazú Falls. I even hopped across the border for a few days in Encarnación, Paraguay. Whether you’re here for the mate culture or the jungle treks, this guide covers everything a traveler or nomad needs to know.

Common Questions

Is Misiones Safe? – In my experience, Misiones felt very safe and noticeably more laid-back than the federal capital. I traveled through several towns and the capital city without any issues. Check out my guide here for local safety tips, regional data, and how to stay secure while exploring the parks and border crossings.

Can I use my phone on the street? – Generally, yes. In places like Posadas and Capioví, the vibe is very relaxed. However, in high-traffic tourist areas like Puerto Iguazú or crowded border bus terminals, you should remain aware of your surroundings. Read more here for my advice on using tech while traveling the “Route 12.”

Is it worth visiting? – 100%. Between the power of the Iguazú Falls and the fascinating Jesuit history in San Ignacio, Misiones offers a side of Argentina you simply can’t find in Buenos Aires.
